New Orleans

Bar Marilou

Ah, New Orleans. There’s just no place like the Big Easy.

I’ve been to New Orleans more times than I can count, but this last trip was extra special with my mom, dad, and newly minted fiancé. We went down to NOLA to search for wedding venues and ended up picking out a dreamy location at Hotel Peter and Paul. While there’s no shortage of good restaurants and bars in New Orleans, here’s my top 5 places from our visit during May 2022.

  • Bar Marilou - Maison De Luz’s Bar Marilou is a must-stop place. The interior alone is all around swoon worthy. Make a reservation in advance as spots fill up, and be sure to snack on the pommes marilou.

  • The Elysian Bar - While I may be biased because The Elysian is the location of our wedding, the cocktails and atmosphere are not to be missed.

  • The Bower Bar - It was unanimous that the cheese and charcuterie at The Bower was one of our favorites we’ve ever had. The options were inventive and really showcased Louisiana cuisine.

    Favorite drink order: 51 Problems

  • Palladar 511 - a friend of mine who is a local recommended Palladar 511 and it did not disappoint. Everything on the menu was great and I can’t wait to go back.

  • Bacchanal  - While this place is no longer “under the radar” as it was years ago, Bacchanal still holds a special place in my heart for live music and great wine under the Louisiana starlit sky.

Favorite wine order: Piggy Pop is a fun Pét-Nat that was nice and cool, a compliment to the bayou heat.
